Hunger is an interesting urge. God created hunger in order to remind us that we must be sustained. Hunger also points us to that which provides the ultimate sustenance, Jesus. Unfortunately, even with the knowledge that Jesus is the ultimate answer to hunger, I am aware of my addiction to junk food. This reveals two truths:

We become what we worship, and people notice. Another way to put that is, we are what we eat, and we cannot hide that from those around us. When we use things other than God to fill and sustain, we end up looking less like his image and more like the image of what we are consuming. Also, we do not hide nearly as well as we think we do. We might pretend to be worshiping Jesus, but that is a transparent front. It is interesting that often we are aware of those around us that are operating in hiddenness, yet we think we are effectively fooling them! Pride much??

This Sunday we press into another if Jesus’s I Am declarations… That He IS the bread of life and the Light of the World. Spend time before Sunday reflecting on what you consume in order to be filled…
