April 16th, 2023: Beholding Glory

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:11-14)

April 9th, 2023: Beholding Glory

He is risen! He is Jesus Christ our Lord!

April 2nd, 2023: Beholding Glory

Christians are marking the beginning of this week by commemorating Palm Sunday. Adam reminds us that all things, from Genesis to Revelation, point to God's one plan to reconcile the world through Jesus.

March 26th, 2023: Beholding Glory

As we get closer to Holy week, we get closer to the climax of our series taking a journey through the Gospel of John and looking for the glory of God that is revealed to creation.

March 19th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Confusion speaks to the very need of the glory of God and is evidence that we are not a perfected but a perfecting work. Faith will bring understanding and joy in our sorrows. If He is not the joy of your heart, He wants to be so that no one and nothing can take away the joy that results from the glory of God.

March 12th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Jenna reminds us that Jesus is the root, the source, and the vine from which we are to grow, and He is also the good gardener who keeps us from going wild. He will give us all we need to produce good fruit, to produce love. Our job is to remain in relationship with Him.

March 5th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Harlan reminds us that the same voice of power and sovereignty that commanded all of creation to come into existence comes to us who seek Him and speaks to the chaos inside of us saying "be still and have peace."

February 26th, 2023: Beholding Glory

As we continue our journey through John, we are moving out of the public demonstration of glory and into private instruction between Jesus and His disciples. We see Jesus break all proper etiquette by girding Himself with a towel and washing His family's feet, showing us that God's glory will be seen and felt through us by the humble act of washing the foot funk from our friends.

February 19th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Adam walks us through the emotional ride of Jesus' friend, Lazarus', death. Ultimately we see that what Jesus gives us is what we need most, not what we want most. We see that nothing in this life ends in death for those who respond in faith to the glory of God. Jesus rescues us because he delights in us.

February 12th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Adam talks to us about our resistance and rebellion to God's glory. We see that our resistance is a short-term easy response, which allows us to maintain an illusion of control. However, the glory of God attacks rebellion's false comfort. And so, we must endure the discomfort that comes with the refining fire of the Living God. The good news is that, by grace, we get to endure with the weighty felt-presence of God, which makes everything else melt away as we stand in healed order.

February 5th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Human effort accomplishes nothing. It is the Spirit alone that bears fruit which remains. It is the works and acts of God through the Holy Spirit that causes life to break out and flourish. And so, this place of God's weighty presence is something we should hunger for, reach for, and submit to. But it is not without cost. We must believe in the One and Only, allowing the heart to answer when He asks "Are you also going to leave?"

January 29th, 2023: Beholding Glory

So far in John we see that Jesus' signs and wonders show a pattern of Him moving near to those who seek him. That He sees through our masks of brokenness, pride, and pain. And today we see His glory through healing. Do you want to be healed?

January 22nd, 2023: Beholding Glory

We see Jesus meet a seeker on the road who is taking his questions to the living God so that he can understand. And we see Jesus meet a broken woman at a well who is just trying to survive, isolating from all community, not able to see herself as a beloved child of God. To both of these, Jesus brings the weighty felt presence that is His glory, offering grace and forgiveness. He meets those who seek Him. He sees through our brokenness and offers us the one thing that can save us, His life.

January 8th, 2023: Beholding Glory

Adam sets us off on our journey through John where we will be experiencing God's manifest glory. What is glory? It is the revelation of God's power and characteristics through His felt presence.
